Leonid
Karpov is among today's finest exponents of the Russian
school of the Classical guitar. His musical personality and instrumental
technique have earned him an international reputation.
One of the most outstanding guitarists of our time Julian Bream
wrote about Karpov's playing: "...I must say Leonid Karpov
is most gifted, and in his own way quite an artist..."
Born in Russia, Leonid Karpov completed a professional musical
education from a specialized musical school through to a college,
conservatory and post-graduate course. Karpov is a prize-winner
of the International and All-Russia guitar competitions. He currently
teaches guitar at the Saint-Petersburg University of Culture and
Arts as well as Saint-Petersburg State conservatory, combining this
with an extensive concert schedule in Russia and abroad.
Leonid Karpov has gave many times concerts in Germany, Norway,
Spain and other countries. His repertoire includes music of various
genres and styles from the Renaissance to our days. Russian music
is of especial importance to him. His works are compositions, arrangements
and variations on Russian themes. Karpov's original technical virtuosity
is based on characteristic modes of Spanish traditions, intertwined
with American banjo techniques as well as XIXth-century Russian
guitarists, which played the seven-strings guitars. This gives to
him a possibility to play compositions and improvisations on Jazz,
Flamenco, Gypsy, Country and other genres of popular guitar music.
His musical versatility enables him to play as a soloist with orchestras,
string quartets and solo as a member of diverse chamber ensembles.

Guitar Academy and a International Guitar Competition "Virtuosos
of Guitar" (Saint-Petersburg), à chief editor of the magazine
